Read it or Watch it?
Do you read or do you watch the content you are seeking when searching online? I’m sure we can all agree of the many changes over the past few years of online internet content. I’ve heard about the loss of magazine and newspaper subscribers in recent years, and even noticed it first hand. The trade magazines I am subscribed to are getting smaller and smaller. People seem to want to get the electronic version, or e-versions, and publishers are welcoming it as it cuts costs on printing and distribution when all they have to do is create a PDF and hit send to their subscriber list.
But I see other trends in relation to reading online happening right before my eyes! Take a look at the following video delivery genre concept’s, it’s not just on the web.
Take for instance in shopping malls where once stood those advertising banners framed in metal on a pedestal. Now sits a video monitor flashing images in a motion frame. I’ve also seen these in supermarkets and airports.
Look at the variety of online youtube videos which began as a way for non-filmmakers to showcase their home videos for all the world to see. Now this delivery system has almost as many professional videos done by major companies than amateur home movie makers (those who didn’t make the America’s Home Movie show cut!) And the latest trend is re-runs of syndicated shows.
Look back at the elections over the past few years, although yes the darn politicians still bombarded us with smear campaigns all over the 6 oclock news, but how could you not have noticed banner ads and videos covering every side of the websites you visited. And now even the President delivers his daily message via web video!
Think about how many tv commercials you used to see only on television which are now showing up on big company websites, such as news channels and shopping portals. It is predicted that more than 40% of ad agency television commercial budgets are making the online video move!
Don’t forget about how much video is now available on our mobile phones, and television is accessible on your computer, airplane and car. It’s an endlessloop of video “anytime-anywhere” delivery!
Now ask yourself again, are you Reading online or Watching?
